'Memories' in a frame

Happy Sunday everyone!
Today I'm sharing a small project in a frame I created for my art wall
with ColourArte Silks acrylic paints.

For this project I used:
ColourArte products
Other products:
  • White Heavy Gesso
  • craft glue
  • wooden canvas sticks
  • 7Dots Studio 'Domestic Goddess' collection word sticker
  • black frame

So, let's get started.

First step was to paint the wooden sticks with the Silks. I chose some of my favorite colors in green, blue and grey shades and used a paintbrush to apply them on the sticks. They dry pretty quickly and I love how rich the colors look after they are dry!
I also painted some of the sticks with white gesso.

After they were dry I used the craft glue to glue them down randomly.

I wanted to keep it simple with a clean and clear look, so I didn't use any paint on the background.

The only thing to do after the sticks were in place, was to glue a word sticker.

That was pretty much all! I really love the finished look and that Summer feeling it gives at my wall of art :)

Thank you for visiting!

Have a lovely crafty day!

love bugs

Hello everyone!
Today I want to share a canvas I created about love bugs for Mixed Media Place
I really like bugs, I think they are very cute and I love... love! So, my thought was to combine these two ideas in one project:

For this canvas I used quite a few embellishments, actually one chipboard piece and two die cuts from the 7 Dots Studio Soulmates collection!
In order to create the background of the composition, I used the light paste with Finnabair's 'Weaving' stencil and some Lindy's Stamps Gang sprays in color shades that match the photo's colors. I also did some stamping with several stamps here and there...

To create the clusters I used the wooden sticks which come with the canvas - I haven't figured out yet how am I supposed to use them, so I had this idea to glue them on the canvas :) I also glued on them some torn tiny pieces of old pages and little pieces of canvas paper and used some gold thread.

One thing I enjoyed was cutting out the bug. I printed the same photo twice and glue the bug on the second photo. I really like this effect - it's like a real one standing on the photo and looking at it's fellow! :)

For the tittle I used one of the 7 Dots Studio dies. As I didn't have any frame, I decided to make one of my own with gold wire. I wrapped some of it around the sticker and glued it down... I love the result and definitely am going to do it again in another project!

As a final touch, I used my favorite ever 'Blue Grass' from Primary Elements on some spots to highlight them.

Be adventurous

Hello dear friends!
Spring is here and I'm in a great mood these days - I want to make colorful projects and paint a lot of flowers and butterflies!  As I was looking in my photo files, I found a beautiful one with my daughter we took about 2 years ago at the summer house. So, I decided that it was the perfect photo to make a layout about Spring time and today that I'm hosting the Mixed Media Place blog I can share it.

For this project I used two shades of colors: greens and purples. I tried to match the colors of the mediums with the colors of the photo and I think I found the perfect shades in the Lindy's Gang Stamp sprays. I used the Starbursts Salt Water Taffy and Jazzy Jivin' Purple to color all the flowers (paper and stamped ones) and the Starbursts Frolic in the Forest and Ponderosa Pines Olive  to make the background.

In order to make the background, I used a flourish stencil with white gesso. After it was dry, I made A LOT of splashes with the LSG sprays. I also used the Deep Green Ecoline on some spots and a few stamps with the black Staz On. I really enjoy doing such techniques, especially the splashing is my favorite one!
If you want to see how I created the background, you can watch this video of mine - it's a similar project with the same techniques!

The next thing to do, was to deal with the photo. Because of Maria's pose, I got excited by this idea to put her hold something like a kite. She actually didn't hold anything, I don't even remember what she was doing at that moment. Anyway, at first I was going for a kite, but then I found these big butterflies in my stash and that was it! To make it more realistic I made two tiny holes on and under her hand and put the thread through them. It's like she is holding the thread for real, don't you think?
I also made a loop around the head of the butterfly, because she caught it with her lasso :)

To give more depth to the background I glued a few embellishments and some flowers under the photo. I painted them in the same shades with the flowers of the photo with the sprays, but that wasn't enough for me. So, I decided to make a small fence with some wooden sticks and green wire. I really like how it turned. This fence was the perfect place to put the title of the composition "Be Adventurous' - it's a sticker I got from the 7 Dots Studio Nature Walk collection.
